Othello And Iago Evilness Essays - Othello, Iago, Michael Cassio

Othello And Iago Evilness There are evil people in this world; greedy, manipulative, overbearing and jealous. Iago, in William Shakespeare's Othello, is an evil, malignant character. He uses people's goodness, integrity, and ignorance to get what he wants. When Othello's position is higher through character and status, Iago becomes jealous and decides that Othello must be eliminated. Iago is aware of the jealousy inside himself. Othello is a good man at heart, but is not aware of his evil and jealousy, and therefore will not be able to control it. Iago takes advantage of this and uses Othello's trust to manipulate Othello into revealing his true character. Iago, like any great manipulator, moves indirectly so he is never suspected. He uses Roderigo to get to Cassio, Desdemona, and Othello. Once the peace is disrupted, Iago moves directly to Othello. Everyone trusts Iago and believes that he is trying to do the best for them. Iago uses Roderigo to get Cassio in trouble with Othello. Since Roderigo is in love with Desdemona, "I confess it is my shame to be so found (of Desdemona)"(Act 1. Sc 3. Ln 360), Iago tells Roderigo that Cassio is in love with her and she in love with Cassio. "Desdemona is directly in love with him."(Act2. Sc1. Ln240) This upsets Roderigo and he is more prone to fight Cassio when told by Iago to do so. Roderigo does not just have Othello to compete with anymore; he has Cassio as well. Iago tells Roderigo that he can win Desdemona from Cassio by fighting and from Othello by following her to Cyprus. So Roderigo listens to and trusts the man, fights Cassio, sells his land and brings Iago to Cyprus. After the fight Cassio is dismissed from his office by Othello. Iago wins. Cassio is in trouble, is no longer Othello's lieutenant and Iago is in Cyprus with Othello. He then moves in on Cassio. Cassio is another step closer for Iago's plan to cause Othello's demise. Iago convinces Cassio to ask Desdemona, Othello's wife, to help in reinstating him. By Cassio asking Desdemona for help, the two have times when they are together, and Desdemona decides to support Cassio. Cassio goes to Desdemona for reinstatement to his lieutenancy because Iago tells him that it is best to not go directly to Othello. "Confess yourself freely to her. Importune her help to put you in your place again."(act2.sc3.ln357). Cassio trusts the "honest Iago" and asked Desdemona for her helped. This will later cause Othello's jealously to escalate. After the fight between Roderigo and Cassio, Othello turns to Iago for help, which Iago gives after a little hesitation. "Honest Iago, that looks dead with grieving, speak. Who began this?" "I do not know...I can not speak any beginning to this peevish odds.... Cassio following him with determined sword to execute him. (Act 2. Sc3. Lns189-243)." Now that Cassio is on Othello's bad side and Iago is on his good side, Iago goes in for "the kill." Othello is being manipulated and lied to by Iago. Iago puts ideas of Cassio's adulterous behavior with Desdemona in Othello's mind, lets it simmer, then backs it up with lies and orchestrates scenarios that look to be the truth. Othello's trust for human kind and good nature proves to be detrimental in this instance and ends in his death. Othello had been the top dog in Venice. He was an honorable black general, frightening, but respected. He had had a wonderful army and loving, beautiful wife, who all followed orders. He had had everything Iago wanted, and Iago hated him for it. " I hate the Moor."(act1.sc3.ln429). At first Iago just wants Cassio's lieutenancy, but when he gets it he goes for Othello, too. Iago uses Othello's superficial goodness to strip him of all his self respect and confidence with his suggestion of Desdemona's betrayal. Othello's goodness is not real integrity and good character. He is fake to himself and to others. Othello touches and deals with everything on a superficial level. He never goes deeply into relationships. Othello is the general of an army; he never really gets to know his soldiers, but is respected by them. His wife, Desdemona, doesn't fall in love with Othello for any sexual reason, but rather for his courage and honesty. Othello's goodness is easier to break because he is not aware of it. Othello is blindly assaulted and broken by Iago. Iago manipulates the fallen Othello, by putting more and more ideas into his head: ideas like the handkerchief, "She gave it (the

Sculpture Overview †Art Notes (200 Level Couse)

Sculpture Overview – Art Notes (200 Level Couse) Free Online Research Papers Sculpture Overview Art Notes(200 Level Couse) At is always a transformation of reality, never a duplication Sculpture, along with painting and architecture, is usually, but not very usefully, classified as on of the visual arts. Most sculpture, whether abstract or representational, returns us to the voluminosity (bulk), density (mass), and tactile quality of things. The primary subject matter of most abstract sculpture is the density of sensa The space around a sculpture is sensory rather than empty Sculpture and Density Sculpture occupies space as a three-dimensional mass, whereas paining is essentially a two dimensional surface that can only represent (â€Å"re-present†) three-dimensionality Painting may suggest density whereas sculpture is dense We can only fully apprehend sculpture by senses that are not only alive to visual and tactile (touchable) surfaces but also to the weight and volume lying behind those surfaces Sculpture and Painting Compared The distinction between abstract and representational sculpture is worth making, just as with painting, for being clear about the subject matter of a work of art is essential to all sensitive participation. It is the key to understanding the content, for the content is the subject matter interpreted by means of the form. Sensory Interconnections The sensa of touch, for instance, are normally joined with other sensa – visual, aural, oral, and olfactory. Even if only one kind of sensum initiates a perception, a chain reaction triggers off other sensations, either by sensory motor connections or by memory associations Surface-Relief Sculpture There are some clearly noticeable projections out into space, but almost every device available for creating the illusion rather than the actuality of spatial depth – foreshortening, landscape vistas, perspective effects, etc. – is used. Sunken-Relief Sculpture Has grooves or lines cut into the surface while the surface remains clearly perceptible Usually carved This work, when you stand before it much more than when you see it in a photograph, has significant tactile appeal High-Relief Sculpture A term used in sculpture for figures in wood, stone, marble, etc., so cut as to project at least one-half from the tablet. Has a front or back and can be hung on a wall Low-Relief Sculpture Relief sculpture projects relatively slightly from a background plane such as a wall or column It projects relatively slightly from its background plane, and so its depth dimension is very limited Sculpture in the Round Sculpture meant to be viewed from any side. Any sculpture that can be walked around When the human body is portrayed in the round, we may have the most vivid material counterpoint of our internal feelings and mental images of our bodily existence. All sculpture always evokes our outward sensations and sometimes our inward sensations. Sculpture in the round that has as its subject matter the human body not only often evokes our inward sensations but also interprets them Space Sculpture Emphasizes spatial relationships and tends to de-emphasize the density and materiality of its materials Usually made by assembling preformed pieces of material Usually abstract sculptures â€Å"Truth to Materials† A carving from wood, shaped so as to reveal the grains of the wood â€Å"Ready – Made† Sculpture A man-made object used as a major part or totality of the sculpture Earth Sculpture A design that uses the earth as the base for the sculpture Machine Sculpture A kinetic or moving work energized by a machine Idealized Sculpture A natural figure made more beautiful Sculpture and Architecture Compared Architecture is the art of separating inner from outer space in such a way that the inner space can be used for practical purposes. JFK Assassination and Conspiracies Research Paper

JFK Assassination and Conspiracies - Research Paper Example This alleged attack caused serious wounding to Kennedy along with the injury of Connally himself. After approaching to the hospital, the death of Kennedy was announced thirty minutes later, by the hospital, named as Dallas Parkland. Kennedy was 46 at the time of his assassination. Vice president Lyndon Johnson was elected as the 36th president of United States on the same day. November, 25 was announced to be the day of Kennedy’s national mourning, in which hundreds of Americans lined up in the streets of Washington in the respect of Kennedy. JFK’s assassination has been backed by numerous theories up till now. The investigation of ten-months done by Warren Commission concluded that Lee Harvey Oswald was the murder of Kennedy. Lee Harvey has been investigated to act alone in the killing of Kennedy. The conclusion given by the Warren Commission was highly supported by the American public, with the percentage of 80, between 1966 and 2003. In 1998 the CBS polling resulted that, 76 percent of Americans believed JFK assassination, as a fact of conspiracy. Lee Harvey used to work in Marines, in 1936 and discharged from there in 1962 (Kurtz 56). He was originally from New Orleans. His return to the United States was in 1962, along with his wife and an infant child. It has been also investigated that, in early 1963 Oswald bought a .38 revolver along with a telescopic sight. He bought both of the equipment by mail order. In October 1963, Lee joined Texas School Book Depository building as an employee. The record of Lee had always been involved into some illegal activities, as a criminal. It is concluded to be Oswald, firing the bullets on Kennedy. He got arrested within half an hour after playing shots on the president Ruby, who was also connected to the criminal world. Lee Harvey Oswald was shot to death, by Jack Ruby. On the

The Substance Abuse Treatment Program in North Dakota Assignment

The Substance Abuse Treatment Program in North Dakota - Assignment Example As such, DCS does not have the instruments of coercion with which to handle violent outbreaks and acts of lawlessness which characterize incarceration. Offenders facing drug charges are to be treated immediately they are established to be addicted to hard drugs such as narcotics and are brought under prison custody. What informs this proposition is the need to foster public and prison health and safety. It is dangerous to have cocaine addicts in prison. The addict may have a violent predisposition or die because of the inability to access the drugs. Drug treatment for hard-drug addicted offenders will also help win the war on drugs. Drugs such as cigarettes may not fall within this rubric due to their relatively mild effects. Ideally, people facing drug charges are to be incarcerated when they are: peddling the hard drugs and substances; engaging in and abetting criminal activities such as forceful conscription into drugs; proven to be dangerous to others and to public order. From a personal standpoint, the most effective drug treatment method is the administration of psychosocial therapy. This is because psychosocial therapy factors the role of the individual and the strength of his will in defeating addiction. According to Gladding, and Wallace, psychosocial therapy in drug rehabilitation is vindicated by the fact that most people have recovered from drug addiction on their own and that the success or failure of any drug rehabilitation program pivots on personal will (Gladding and Wallace, 22, 23).  Ã‚

Reforming Global Finance Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Reforming Global Finance - Essay Example The stability of the global market destabilized to an extent that the economy of the rest of the world, including Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, and South Korea went into economic meltdown. This was so severe that it called for the intervention of the humanitarian groups, like Jubilee 2000, who advocated for the cancellation of the debts owed by the poorest countries. The Central bank decided to chip in and try to resolve the situation therein. They worked for 24hours just to see the thing go back in order. Hazel introduces John Perkins, who is an economist and the author of â€Å"Confessions of an Economic Hit Man†, to discuss the history of economic theory and his involvement in the manipulation of the financial organizations like the world bank and the International Monetary fund (IMF). Perkins says that, during the past decades when ‘hot money’ was in circulation, he was actually seduced into luring the poor countries who had huge debts into further debts ( Henderson, Perkins, Rogoff, & Fukuda-Parr, 2005). This was purposed so that these countries would hold to the government policies of the United States. For instance, Indonesia became a victim when the United States loaned it billion of dollars, which was later taken by the US in the name of building for them projects back in the US. They continued paying back the loan with the huge interests until they could no more. This left Indonesia with a huge debt that they would never repay logically thus holding on to the US government. Therefore, this gave the US a chance to manipulate the Indonesians by fetching resources their country such as oil. Finally, Perkins confesses that whatever he was asked to do was technically politics and not assisting the poor countries to get out from their poverty (Henderson, Perkins, Rogoff, & Fukuda-Parr, 2005). I think this was an unfair way of trying to control the entire world. The US government went overboard in trying to exercise their superiority. Professor Kenneth Rogoff, who is the chief economist at the IMF, suggests that instead of giving out loans the US government would have given the underdeveloped countries grants.  Ã‚

Analysis of the National Environmental Policy Act

Analysis of the National Environmental Policy Act Summary of Laws Purpose: The purpose of the National Environmental Policy Act was to establish recommendations for federal agencies to encourage mitigation and reduction of potential damage to environmental systems from human-environment interactions that prioritized human interest over environmental health (Dept. of Energy, 1969). It was meant to educate federal agencies on how natural systems and ecosystem services are of critical importance (Dept. of Energy, 1969). In addition to the establishment of environmental guidelines, the act also created the Council on Environmental Quality, which made the President accountable to Congress on the welfare and health of the environment. (Dept. of Energy, 1969). Implementation: The law is administered by the Council on Environmental Quality, a federal agency that was established by the law itself (Council on Environmental Quality, n.d.). The Council administers the law through advising on the content of regulations, regulating the implementation of the laws procedures, as well as mediating between the different agencies and governmental bodies that work within the scope of the laws regulations (Council on Environmental Quality, n.d.).. The state government are involved through their branches of various federal agencies but they have no direct influence on the implementation of the law, their actions are subject to federal approval (Council on Environmental Quality, n.d.). The public has little chance to engage in the process beyond the presidential election process, as the Council is under presidential authority (Council on Environmental Quality, n.d.). The primary level of administration therefore is entirely federal, with little outside influence (Council on Environmental Quality, n.d.). The full text of the law can be found at:https://energy.gov/sites/prod/files/nepapub/nepa_documents/RedDont/Req-NEPA.pdf History of the Law This law was enacted in 1970, specifically on January 1, when President Richard Nixon signed it (Council on Environmental Quality, n.d.). Since it passed, the law has been amended several times. The first amendment was in 1975 through Public Law 94-83, which enabled states to write the environmental impact statements required for acquiring federal funding (Quartner, 273). The second amendment was passed later in 1975 as Public Law 94-52, and altered the allowed uses of funds by Council on Environmental Quality (Government Publishing Office, n.d.). Congress Demographics: The Democratic party controlled the chambers of Congress when the NEPA was enacted (US Senate, n.d). However, the Republican party controlled the Presidency (US Senate, n.d).The bill passed by a with a vote of 372 to 15 in the House of Representatives and was voted through the Senate by a unanimous vote (HistoryLink, n.d). Relevant Policy Principles: This law invokes the policy principle of common but differentiated responsibility, or command and control (Connelly, 189). Because it is a command and control based principle that makes it a rights based mechanism (Connelly, 188) This is due to the nature of this law which mandates that the federal government regulates the implementation of environmental policy, but there is a secondary level where the state level agencies also have a level of responsibility to uphold the standards set by the federal law (Connelly, 2012). This multiplicity of responsibility, where multiple parties are responsible, but no responsibility is designated as the superior one, fits in with the idea of this policy principle (Connelly, 2012). The primary strength of this kind of policy is that it prevents a race to the bottom type situation where companies move locations to find the most lenient restrictions (Connelly, 2012). However, in contrast, this policy is weak in that it takes away the opportunity for industries to be motivated towards innovation to avoid penalties (Connelly, 2012). Various Summaries: The National Preservation Institutes summary of the NEPA can be found at: https://www.npi.org/NEPA/what-is. The NPI is a nonprofit that aims to educate the public about cultural heritage (NPI, n.d.) as well as management (NPI, n.d.) and preservation, (NPI, n.d.) and offers seminars to instill this knowledge in its members through multi-day workshops (NPI, n.d.). This summary differs from the EPA summary of the NEPA in that it outlines the two main objectives of the act within federal agencies, whereas the EPA version is more generalized about what the act was intended to accomplish on a more societal level, mentioning industry and commercial operations (NPI, n.d.). The EPAs own summary can be found at https://www.epa.gov/laws-regulations/summary-national-environmental-policy-act. Works cited: Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ). Blood Red Horse Essay

When you think of advisors most people think of old nurse, Brother Randolph, and other found in the book Blood Red Horse bye K.M. Grant. However, most people don’t think about Baha Adin or Gavin de Granville. They might have not been such great advisors at first, but have became wonderful advisors later on. Many things in their life and what they went through must have had an effect on who they became. Gavin de Granville and Baha Adin both had many similarities. They both went through hardships. Gavin lost his arm, as stated in page 275, paragraph 2, and sentence 6.† With the loss of his arm†¦.†. Baha Adin went through hardships as well. He saw many of the Saracen soldiers killed and bloody, as stated in page 127, ending to page 128 beginning,†Baha Adin was standing by the flap, looking out at and listening to messengers. Wounded soldiers were streaming past.† Another similarity was that they were good advisors/supporting characters. Gavin was a good advisor to king Richard that, King Richard made Gavin count of Hartslove stated in page 275, paragraph 3, and sentence 3, â€Å"I also bequeath to my faithful councilor Gavin de Granville, now count of Hartslove†¦.†. Baha Adin was as loyal to Saladin as Gavin was to King Richard. As stated in page 71, paragraph 7, sentence 2, â€Å"†¦ By Baha Adin, a councilor whose advice Saladin particul arly valued†¦Ã¢â‚¬ . A big difference between Gavin and Baha was their religion. Baha Adin was a Saracen, as you can infer from this statement found in page 127, paragraph 4, â€Å"Only ten miles away in the Saracen camp, Saladin was striding around his tent angry and worried. Baha Adin was standing by the flap†¦.† . Gavin was Christian as you can infer from this statement in page 232, â€Å"the brothers embraced. God, the king and Hosanna, William whispered. Gavin tried to reply. He got far as god, the king but could say no more.† Gavin and Baha did show good advisory. Let’s see if they still share a good talent in the next book Green Jasper by: K.M. Grant.

Personal Response on Sexual Identity

I am guided by the pursuit of pleasure because I prefer to do what feels right rather than what is best. I answer to my gut feeling or listen to my heart if you will. Was raised to do what Is best for me and not for anyone else, and have also taught myself never regret anything that I do but learn and grow from my mistakes. I also relate to the value rationalism, which may seem like I contradict myself but sometimes I do stop and think about the consequences before I act instead of living in the moment. In my past, I have made some terrible mistakes and has made me want to be more cautious about certain situations I come across.I believe that I will always relate to these values. Critical Thinking and Sexual Decision Making People may not know that they use critical thinking every time they make a sexual decision, but I know how Important It Is to think a sexual decision through before making a decision. I would consider myself a skeptic even after this class. Being a skeptic means t hat I have to question anything related to sexual activities. I find it important to think about the consequences before making a decision because I can avoid making mistakes.A time that I had to use critical thinking was when I was deciding whether to lose my virginity or not. That decision was not something that I could choose right away but would take me a while to think about the consequences. It was my decision ultimately to make, and no one could help me decide. Critical thinking is a must anytime you are about to make a life-altering decision. Gender Identity Gender identity is the belief in which you truly are. Before we are born we are given a sex assignment, based on the internal and external organs we have in the womb.As e grow up, we learn whom we are and determine which gender we agree with. Most of the time we identify with the gender we were assigned with when In the womb or after birth. There are times that Individuals choose the opposite gender than the one they wer e assigned. Factors that help determine gender identity is genetic factors, social factors and environmental factors. Between man and woman, 23 chromosomes are combined to make up the genetic code. The egg carriers the X sex chromosome and the sperm can carry either the X or Y sex chromosome. This is the sex assignment and usually the gender most people identify as.Social factors help they raised you as a boy, you would most likely identify yourself as a boy. Also, your peers can have an effect on how you determine your gender identity. If one wants to fit in, he or she may try to identify as the gender that their peers are. Environmental factors can help determine your gender identity by naturally shaping you into whom you believe you are. People go through many situations that can have an effect on your gender identify. The factors that have affected my gender identity are genetic factors, environmental factors and social factors. At birth, it was determined that I m a girl because of my internal and external organs I have. Social and environmental factors determined my gender identity because my parents raised me based on my sex assignment. My parents and our society taught me that there was only one way. Which technically meant that I had no say in my gender identity since I was born as a girl I was to remain a girl. The factor that most helps me to determine my gender identity was the social factor of my parents raising me as I was meant to be. Masculinity and Femininity On the continuum of masculinity-femininity, I fall close to the middle but closer to Minnie.I like to get dressed up and be â€Å"girl' with makeup and purses, but I also like to hang with the guys and watch football and drink a beer. I would not say I am masculine in any way, but I do have masculine tendencies because I'm not afraid to get dirty. I grew up with both parents so I would say they balanced my feminine and masculine qualities. They taught me the important parts of being femin ine and masculinity. My mother taught me to act like a lady, and my father taught me how to change a tire. Attraction There are three components of attractiveness; they are attitude, physical attraction ND reciprocity. The first thing someone notices about another person is his or her physical appearance. What makes a person want to further the relationship is his or her attitude. If they find the attitude to be attractive, chances are they will try to further the relationship. Reciprocity is when both parties want the same thing and will work together to make their relationship a lasting one. The factor that is most important to me would be an attitude because while physical attraction is the first thing I notice, attitude is the component that makes me want to act on my feelings. If someone does not have a good attitude or a similar attitude as mine, I will not find him or her attractive. Styles of Love The styles of love that are constant in my life right now are romantic love, pos sessive excited love and friendship. Romantic love has always been a constant in my life because I am a lover. When I fall in love, I fall hard. Romantic love is probably the truest love today. Possessive excited love is a style of love that I find in my life today. Although my boyfriend and I are not possessive, we have a lot of excitement in our relationship. The excitement to see each other after a long day of work or the excitement to have a date night keeps our relationship strong. Before my boyfriend and I decided to be in a relationship, we were really great friends. We bonded instantly and got along very well. When I started to feel like being friends was not enough for me, I had to let him know. Historical and Scientific Perspectives on Homosexuality Homosexuality is when an individual is attracted sexually or romantically to people of in our society we have people who protest against gays having equal rights such as arraign.Of course, our society has come a long way with he terosexuals fighting along side the homosexuals for the their rights. Historical and scientific perspectives have shaped the way I perceive my sexual orientation and myself. Historically, homosexual practices were either done in secret or known about but shunned. Homosexuals were looked down on and seen as abominations. In the past individuals who were accused of homosexuality were convicted by the â€Å"Office of the Night†, which was a group of Christians who felt negatively on homosexuals. In today's society, homosexuals do not have to hide that they are gay because they can not be convicted for whom they are. Unfortunately, there are still individuals out there that do not agree with homosexuality. There is still the potential of gay individuals being harassed by those individuals. Hate crimes are still common in our society. I am not gay, but I do have gay friends and family, and I do not look at them any differently; instead I stand beside them and protect them from any hate that comes their way. History has only taught me that we need to fight for the rights and that I need to be true to myself.Scientific perspectives have researched the possibility of genetics and mental health being the cause of homosexuality. They have studied family trees to determine if homosexuality can be passed down through generations. They only found that the X chromosome could influence sexual orientation. The researchers have also studied the brain and the possibility that homosexuality can be caused by a mental illness of some sort. Scientific perspectives have not reflected on my sexual orientation. I am straight because I choose to be.I believe that anyone should be able to love whoever they want without being Judged for it. Abortion When I was younger I always thought abortion was wrong because it was taking a life of a baby. As I grew up and learned more, I realized I was making my decision on abortion based off of others ideas of abortion. I became aware of abort ion when a friend of mine in high school had an abortion after having sex once. I understood why she would want an abortion because of being in high school and she had her whole life ahead of her. Her family was very strict, and she was worried about her parents disowning her.

Caspian Construction PLC Security Management

Caspian Construction PLC Security Management Twenty-Four Hour Security Management Site security is one of the fundamental aspects, which must be given first priority in the event that a construction expects to undertake any assigned project work in a timely, as well as less costly manner. In every construction site, the term security has a wide range of meanings. It may refer to the safety of the workers who are on the site in terms of enjoying an accident free environment.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Caspian Construction PLC Security Management specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Security can also refer to the undertaking of loss control through the prevention of equipment theft. In most of the Venezuelan construction sites, contractors incur big losses as a result of equipment theft. Even though insurance firms offset some of the financial costs, the contractor settles most of the uninsured costs. The runway construction will entail a wide range of equipment along with a diverse workforce and thus it will be of great essence to put in place vibrant security measures (Fay, 2011). Contractors with insufficient security management remain to be theft targets. The security personnel should address all issues leading to both tool, as well as, equipment theft. In most of the scenarios, the profitability of a construction company highly relies on the ability to prevent theft losses effectively. An effective construction-site security requires good planning along with programming. Runway construction involves the use of construction material along with equipment of high value and thus it is vital to prevent them from being stolen. Secure equipment automatically leads to secure business. Equipment theft is associated with various potential sources. However, the two principal sources are the workers on the site along with the general public who visit the site as the construction work continues. Caspian Construction PLC has to implement various me asures to succeed in maintaining a twenty-four hour security operation within the Venezuelan site. In the first place, it will be of great essence to establish methods of getting early warning signs while undertaking construction site monitoring. It is highly unlikely that thieves or vandals will forewarn anyone about their intention to carry out theft on a certain place. Nevertheless, it is important to note that there are various techniques that could be used by a security manager in order to acquire information concerning a planned theft (Sennewald, 2011). This could be through early warning messages. For instance, using Google alerts, one can get aware of the string of thefts taking place within the neighborhood and thus tighten vigilance within the site.Advertising Looking for essay on project management? Lighting brings down construction site theft because it discourages prowlers. In addition, adequate lighting assists those assigned the duty of monitoring the site in identifying the suspicious activities. It has been established that intruders will tend to target the poorly lit areas. Therefore, before the construction materials along with equipment are brought to the site, security lights should be positioned in various points within the site. It is always recommended to make use of white light because it is considerably bright. White light is also helpful in making a clear color differentiation, thereby facilitating the identification and reading of license plates. Even though the white lights are expense to maintain lit; they are worth the price. In accordance to the basic thumb rule, the white light can assist the security personnel to identify a certain face, which is approximately thirty feet away. I t is also essential to make it certain that the power sources within the site are protected. Thieves always attempt to interfere with the power source prior to carrying out their agenda. It is therefore advisable to have a well-secured private power source for the purposes of the security lighting. Daytime security should no be taken for granted. In most of the construction sites, the security managers tend to overlook daytime security issues. In this regard, it is essential to formulate security questions, which will be applied within the field. Moreover, it might be essential to request all the site workers to remain dressed in a set standard uniform while undertaking their daily duties (Fay, 2011). This might seem insignificant but it makes the identification of unauthorized â€Å"visitors† easier. In respect to the security questions, the on-site staff should be trained on formulating strong lined questions, which might assist them in identifying unauthorized persons with in the site. For instance, instead of asking an individual whether he or she works within the site, the crew should inquire from the individual whomever he or she works for within the site. This is due to the fact that a construction of this magnitude will entail a number of sub-contractors and some invaders may hide their identity behind the sub-contractors’ names.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Caspian Construction PLC Security Management specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The other step will be the development of a pre-job checklist. A checklist will turn out as vital in making better the site security. Within the list, various personnel will be assigned certain security duties. The assignment should be allocated to those who have the required expertise, as well as, experience. Since some of them will have served in the same capacity in the previous projects, they will be requested to dedicate themselves mo re within this project by promising them various incentives. The checklist will also consist of items such as inventory management system, mandatory sign-in register along other documents, which may assist in reducing theft. Consideration will also be made to award gifts to individuals thought to have made the most helpful security tip within a certain time, for instance, per month. The gathering of essential contacts such as police contacts, fir department’s contacts, as well as, neighbors’ contacts will not be overlooked (Sennewald, 2011). Through the use of internet, substantial information about the local contacts of all the individuals mentioned previously will be obtained. The local police will assist in making specifications about the distinct security precautions, which should be made. The aforementioned security measures may not achieve much success in the absence of a strong security fence. Within every site security program, more focus should be directed tow ards the establishment of the perimeter fence as it acts as the site’s defense line. Security fences are fundamental for the protection of tools along with materials. They also assist in bring under control the issue of trespassers. It is only at the presence of a security fence that one can launch a lawsuit on trespassing against any culprits. Therefore, the security fences should satisfy certain characteristics. The security fences should be high such that they cannot be climbed. Moreover, high fences play the role of psychological deterrent. Trespassers along with â€Å"impulse† vandals get discouraged upon coming across high fences. It is also important to ensure that the number of gates within the security fence is brought to the minimum. In the event that the access gates are numerous, the more vulnerable is the security detail. The gates should also be narrow enough to allow the entry of emergency vehicles.Advertising Looking for essay on project management? Let's see if we can help you! The analysis will entail of reviewing the crime rate within the area. This is due to the fact most of the site theft is always organized from within (Fay, 2011). In addition, while conducting the security analysis, safety zones will be identified within which the stores along with car park will be located. There are other rules along with regulations, which will be passed to all the workers prior to the commencement of the project. The staff will also be informed about the reporting procedures to be followed in case they discover cases related to equipment theft. It is unethical to wait for a certain theft incident to take place to establish the reporting procedures. In the course of the working hours, all the equipment should remain locked, as well as, immobilized. Anti-theft devices will be attached on various equipments such as steering-wheel locks, locked fuel caps along with some more others. Where possible, all the equipment within the site should remain securely locked once not in operation. It will also be essential to install an alarm system within the site. Moreover, all the major equipments along with site vehicles should be protected by an alarm system (Sennewald, 2011). Alarm systems will always send warning signals to the security personnel in the event that thieves strike. In order to ensure that everything within the site is well monitored; surveillance cameras will also be installed within various areas along with main stores within the site. Basically, it is only with commitment that it is possible to prevent theft effectively. In the event that not all the employees are enlightened about the essence of prioritizing theft prevention, all the formulated theft policies will be bound to fail. All workers along with their supervisors will be held accountable in playing their assigned role within the theft-prevention program. Proper communication channels will be established to ensure that all the workers, as well as sub contractors have all the required information related to security matters. Benefits and shortfalls of making use of local security personnel It is always vital to make use of the local residents or security companies in the provision of security services. Given that the project is being carried out within an area whereby the company management is not conversant with the security situation, securing the services of a local security agency is well advised. The local security firm will have an upper hand in offering efficient security services because it understands better the security needs of the area. Moreover, in relation to the social constructivism theory, cultural understanding is essential in the establishment of practical security system. Even though security issues are currently approached with a global perspective, the local security aspects cannot be overlooked. Moreover, the local security firms will have already established good relationships with the local police such that they can offer them any kind of assistance they may require. Making use of local security firms will also establish good public relations of the Caspian Construction PLC with local companies. It is essential that multi-national companies dish out some contracts in form of sub-contracts to the local firms within which they are carrying out a given project. The locals will be even more ready to cooperate with the company because they are offering them employment. Moreover, in relation to the chaos theory, it is only the local security firm, which can comprehend well the prevailing security conditions. Even though much information can be obtained online regarding the security situation within Venezuela along with the crime rate within the earmarked site area, the information may not be adequate to formulate effective security policies. In addition, the locals are well equipped with the local security laws and thus w hen they need to initiate lawsuits against other parties; they will take up the assignment with a lot of ease. The chaos theory is mostly based on the visual ‘butter fly effect’ whereby underestimated aspects can bring about unforeseeable effects. While the idea of contracting local security agency may seem small, it can help much in mitigating various security issues. It is the local firm, which is well informed with the various forces, which can trigger security instability within the construction site. Putting into consideration the contract involves runway construction within an airport; matters concerning security will be highly prioritized. Airports are sensitive areas and a slack in the security detail can put at stake the lives of numerous individuals (Fay, 2011). The contracted local security firm will be more dedicated in protecting its fellow citizens against any form of attack, which can be targeted to the airport as a result of the on-going construction wor k. Moreover, the local security firm will also be well placed in communicating with the local stakeholders in regard to offering other types of support to the project. Given that they understand Venezuela better than the Caspian Construction PLC management, they will offer suitable advice on the local firms, which should be assigned various sub-contracting jobs. Sub-contracts should be offered to reputable firms. In the event that the sub-contracts are assigned to unworthy companies, the security within the construction site may be at stake. Malicious sub contractors can even organize theft within the construction site. Information provided by various companies within their websites may not be the most appropriate for establishing their actual capacities (Sennewald, 2011). Some firms in the endeavour of expanding their client base post misleading information within their websites. It will also be less expensive to make use of local security firms. These firms will be well informed a bout the various costs which they have to pay for various security equipments such as surveillance cameras. The local companies may attempt to fleece Caspian Construction PLC in the event that they attempt to purchase such equipment by themselves. Caspian being an international company, majority of the local firms may be more concerned with taking advantage of the firm. However, making use of local security firms will be quite helpful in resolving such contracting obstacles. Moreover, the contract to undertake the runway construction was most likely awarded by the Venezuelan government. The government will therefore be highly impressed to have local companies involved in the project because that will be a form of supporting local Venezuela business. Besides, it will be a good gesture by the company, as it will show commitment in investing in the country’s local economy. Awarding the security provision contract to a local company will also assist Caspian Construction PLC in re ducing the administration workload. This is due to the fact that the company management will not be involved in the recruitment, as well as, supervision of security personnel. It will be the duty of the contracted local firm to carry out all the duties concerning the provision of security within the site. In addition, outsourcing security services increases the reliability of the security team (Fay, 2011). Given that the contracted firm is strictly involved with the provision of security services, its personnel will obviously be well trained and in possession of the desired experience. Moreover, in case the need to replace the security personnel emerges, the local firm will be in a position to undertake that duty immediately without major constraints. On the contrary, in the event that Caspian Construction PLC decides to manage its security workforce, it may face staffing problems given that they are operating in a foreign land. In case emergency cases emerge which require extra sec urity staff, the local firm will be capable of meeting that requirement. The security needs within the site will not remain constant through out the construction period, as time progresses, there may be the need to trim down the security personnel. The local security firm will accomplish that without making the personnel redundant because they will be posted to other stations. Besides, Caspian Construction PLC may not be in a position to retain the security personnel after the completion of the project. Nevertheless, in the course of contracting the local firm, it is advisable to evaluate the company’s reputation along with efficiency. Even though there are numerous advantages associated with the contracting of local firms for the provision of security services, there are also several disadvantages linked to such a step. The procedures of the security firm may not be suitable for the Caspian Construction PLC. The local firm may indulge in certain work ethics which may not be acceptable within the Caspian Construction PLC. The local firm may take security issues with much unnecessary concern. The local security firm may also end up being sued for using unnecessary force in scenarios which did not require such forces. In the event that the firm is charged within the local courts for causing unnecessary harm on suspected vandals, disagreements may emerge on the firm which is supposed to take responsibility. In other cases, the costs of sub-contacting a local security firm may be considerably high than employing such personnel directly. The sub-contracted firms will cite various management issues to justify their exorbitant costs. The other disadvantage is that the contracted security firm may have poorly trained security personnel. This will lead to making the construction firm even more vulnerable to incidents of theft. As mentioned earlier, most of the on-site thefts are masterminded by the workforce present in the site (Sennewald, 2011). The contracted security firm personnel may not integrate well with the Caspian Construction PLC employees. Due to the poor relations between the security personnel with the other workforce on the site, it will be easier to plan equipment or even material theft. The loyalty of the local firm’s employees may also be questionable. Given that any equipment loss will not affect them directly, they may even abet in organizing equipment theft with willing parties. Moreover, unfaithful security personnel can also take part in offering security information which is supposed to remain confidential to outsiders. Seeking the services of another firm to deal with security issue may impact negatively on the relationship of the construction firm employees with their management. The employees may get the false impression that the company management does not trust them. In the effort to prove that such a measure was not worthwhile, these employees may organize equipment, as well as, material theft so that t he sub-contracted firm may turn out as ineffective. In the event that equipment loss takes place, the sub-contracted security firm may object taking up responsibility. This may lead to unnecessary costs as the Caspian Construction PLC may be forced to launch lawsuits against the firm. Besides, the insurance companies can also deny compensating for the lost equipment on the excuse that the company had passed the responsibility of taking care of its assets to another firm. To overcome all these shortcomings, prior to warding the contract to a certain firm, it will be necessary to evaluate the company’s policies. Construction equipments are highly expensive and thus the hired security should have a good history in the security field. Besides, the company should be in a good financial position such that it can meet the costs of establishing vibrant security systems, which in most cases prove to be costly. Quotes That Show Macbeths Intentions

Quotes That Show Macbeth's Intentions The motor that drives the tragedy of Shakespeares  Macbeth  is the lead character’s ambition. It is his primary character flaw and the trait that causes this brave soldier to murder his way to power. Early on in the famous play,  King Duncan hears of Macbeth’s heroics at war and bestows the title Thane of Cawdor on him. The current Thane of Cawdor has been deemed a traitor and the king orders him to be killed.  When Macbeth is made Thane of Cawdor, he believes that the kingship is not far off in his future. He writes a letter to his wife announcing the  prophecies, and it is actually Lady Macbeth who fans the flames of ambition as the play progresses. The two conspire to kill King Duncan so that Macbeth can ascend to the throne. Despite his initial reservations about the plan, Macbeth agrees, and, sure enough, he is named king after Duncans death. Everything that follows is simply the repercussion of Macbeths unbridled ambition. Both he and Lady Macbeth are plagued by visions of their wicked deeds, which eventually drive them insane. Brave Macbeth When  Macbeth  first appears at the start of the play, he is brave, honorable, and moral- qualities that he sheds as the play develops. He comes on the scene soon after a  battle, where an injured soldier reports Macbeth’s heroic deeds and famously labels him â€Å"brave Macbeth†: For brave Macbeth- well he deserves that name- Disdaining Fortune, with his brandishd steel,Which smoked with bloody execution,Like valours minion carved out his passageTill he faced the slave.(Act 1, Scene 2) Macbeth is presented as a man of action who steps up when he is needed, and a man of kindness and love when he is away from the battlefield. His wife, Lady Macbeth, adores him for his loving nature: Yet do I fear thy nature; It is too full o th milk of human kindnessTo catch the nearest way. Thou wouldst be great,Art not without ambition, but withoutThe illness should attend it.(Act 1, Scene 5) Vaulting Ambition An encounter with the three witches changes everything. Their premonition that Macbeth â€Å"shalt be king hereafter† triggers his ambition- and leads to murderous consequences. Macbeth makes clear that ambition drives his actions, stating as early as Act 1 that his sense of ambition is â€Å"vaulting†: I have no spurTo prick the sides onlyVaulting ambition, which oerleaps itselfAnd falls on the other.(Act 1, Scene 7) When Macbeth makes plans to murder King Duncan, his moral code is still evident- but it is beginning to be corrupted by his ambition. In this quote, the reader can see Macbeth struggling with the evil he is about to commit: My thought, whose murder yet is but fantastical,Shakes so my single state of man that functionIs smotherd in surmise.(Act 1, Scene 3) Later in the same scene, he says: Why do I yield to that suggestionWhose horrid image doth unfix my hair,And make my seated heart knock at my ribs,Against the use of nature?(Act 1, Scene 3) But, as was made apparent at the beginning of the play, Macbeth is a man of action, and this vice supersedes his moral conscience. It is this trait that enables his ambitious desires. As his character develops throughout the play, action eclipses Macbeths morals. With each murder, his moral conscience is suppressed, and he never struggles with subsequent murders as much as he does with killing Duncan. By the end of the play, Macbeth kills Lady Macduff and her children without hesitation. Macbeth’s Guilt Shakespeare does not let Macbeth get off too lightly. Before long, he is plagued with guilt: Macbeth starts hallucinating;  he sees the ghost of murdered Banquo, and he hears voices: Methought I heard a voice cry Sleep no more!Macbeth does murder sleep.(Act 2, Scene 1) This quote reflects the fact that Macbeth murdered Duncan in his sleep. The voices are nothing more than Macbeth’s moral conscience seeping through, no longer able to be suppressed. Macbeth also hallucinates the murder weapons, creating one of the play’s most famous quotes: Is this a dagger which I see before me,The handle toward my hand?(Act 2, Scene 1) In the same act, Ross, Macduffs cousin, sees right through Macbeths unbridled ambition and predicts where it will lead: to Macbeth becoming  king. Gainst nature still!Thriftless ambition, that will ravin upThine own lives means! Then tis most likeThe sovereignty will fall upon Macbeth.(Act 2, Scene 4) Macbeths Fall Near the end of the play, the audience catches a glimpse of the brave soldier who appeared at the beginning. In one of Shakespeare’s most beautiful speeches, Macbeth admits that he is short on time. The armies have amassed outside the castle and there is no way he can win, but he does what any man of action would do: fight. In this speech, Macbeth realizes that time ticks on regardless and that his actions will be lost to time: Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrowCreeps in this petty pace from day to dayTo the last syllable of recorded timeAnd all our yesterdays have lighted foolsThe way to dusty death.(Act 5, Scene 5) Macbeth seems to realize in this speech the cost of his unchecked ambition. But it is too late: There is no reversing the consequences of his evil opportunism.

Classical Literature Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Classical Literature - Essay Example This is what will be dissertated in the following. Genesis is the first Bible verse of the first chapter in the Book of Genesis, and it contains the first words of the Bible. Two distinct stories of the creation of humanity in particular are given in Genesis, and these are: Genesis 1:27-30 "So God created man in his own image; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, 'Be fruitful and increase, fill the earth and subdue it, rule over the fish in the sea, the birds of heaven, and every living thing that moves upon the earth'. God also said, 'I give you all plants that bear seed everywhere on the earth, and every tree bearing fruit which yields seed: they shall be yours for food'; and Genesis 2: 7-8 "Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. Thus the man became a living creature'. Without question the stories of Genesis are the most significant form of history in this regards, however although some of the events that are described re consiste nt with other historical records, there are many others - particularly those before the time of Saul and David - which cannot be tested for accuracy, and thus are considered by many to have been shaped to reflect certain persons' religious and political goals. "The history includes dramatic accounts of persecution, escape, exile, sacrifice, and global devastation by a great flood. It tells of a creator God who watches over his people, tests his people, and promises them great things if they honor his commandments. As any great story must, the history has its villains and it has heroes." (123). Then there is the Epic of Gilgamesh, which is considered by some as being the oldest written story on Earth, and which "was originally written on 12 clay tablets in cuneiform script. It is about the adventures of the historical King of Uruk (somewhere between 2750 and 2500 BCE)". (79). The Epic of Gilgamesh is an epic poem from Babylonia, one which includes a series of Sumerian legends and poems about the mythological hero-king Gilgamesh, who was thought to be a ruler of the 3rd millennium BC, and all of these legends and poems were then gathered together into a "longer Akkadian poem long afterward, with the most complete version extant today pressed on twelve clay tablets in the library collection of the 7th century BC Assyrian king Ashurbanipal" (101). In regards to the similarities and differences between the stories of Genesis and the Epic of Gilgamesh, there are many of both, and all of these must be taken into serious consideration. One of the most major similarities between the two is in regards to the fact of how they are both surrounded around their own leaders; Genesis to God and the Epic of Gilgamesh to the King of Uruk. Each basically describes the workings and actions of their supposed leader, and as well tells of the considered creations and works that took place during their own described eras. Another major similarity between the two i

Sexual Orientation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Sexual Orientation - Essay Example They believe that it is imperative that the controversial issues be handled head on so that everyone concerned is able to live with relative harmony. Sexual preferences have become major issues which promote widespread inequality, thereby, necessitating an urgent need to address this in the wider interest of the society. The essay would be critically assessing the three articles on these issues taken from the book "The meaning of difference: American constructions of race, sex and gender, social class, and sexual orientation" by Karen E. Rosenblum and Toni-Michelle C. Travis. ‘The naming of sexual attraction’, an article by Michael R. Kauth, explores the sexual orientation of the people through the ages and its evolution, both in terms of acknowledgement and acceptance by the society. Kauth has maintained that sexual attraction had always been a sensitive issue that was intrinsically bound within the religious and cultural paradigms of the society. The language and the words play crucial role in defining the overall meaning to sexual orientation or behaviour. According to the article, in the 19th century, the term homosexuality was ‘adopted by psychiatrists and medical practitioners to identify a type of psychopathology and, consequently, this term implies sickness, aberrance and immaturity’ (Kauth1). Apart from the medical professionals, the powerful groups of people, who have considerable influence on the public, are the main decisive powers that define and confine the role of ‘sexual attraction’. Hence, it is for this reason that social paradigms and social values often reflect the views and ideologies of the few prominent people in power, which are carried forward through the times. In the ancient time, ‘gay’ was used to describe gaiety and happiness by the roman soldiers. Before the 19th century, sexuality or sexual preference
